Effect on Growth and Regeneration of Blood Vessels
Growth and regeneration of blood vessels affected by low frequency magnetic field of 15 Hz frequency and 1.2 mT intensity was studied by a research team of O. M. Tepper (2004). They focused mainly on the process of formation of new blood vessels.
This process, otherwise known as angiogenesis, is particularly critical for the successful healing of different tissues. As demonstrated by the data of this study, it is the very low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy that strongly supports the process of angiogenesis. Specifically, this is done by acting on the release of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) and to a lesser extent, also due to other vascular growth factors.
The results suggest that the pulsed magnetic field facilitates healing by strengthening the relationship between the formation, development and restoration of bone (osteogenesis) and the growth of blood vessels, which extends the capabilities of pulsed magnetic therapy to treatment of ischemic diseases.
In this study, low-frequency pulsed magnetic therapy improved tissue growth (proliferation) threefold and increased blood circulation sevenfold.
